Kid Geniuses - it's all about cognitive abilities

The longest-running study of genius kids reveals what it takes to be highly successful
https://apple.news/AbqKnvq8oS6C3guaJsuF3dQ

In the longest-running study of gifted children ever, scientists followed 5,000 kids who tested in the top one percent of intelligence for over four decades. They learned that intelligence plays a huge role in achieving success later in life.

These findings contradict long-held theories,  the idea that high performance comes mainly from practice and the second that "anyone can get to the top with enough focused effort of the right kind."

So the sobbering reality is you are either special or not. If you are special than if your parents identify it early enough and you have opportunity to develop your talent than you will go places.

Some notable one-percenters  who have passed through the center include Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, Google co-founder Sergey Brin and Lady Gaga.

No, you have to put in effort possibly and possibly naturally be a kid genius.
  • Just because some people are automatically smart doesn't make practice pointless. It's like in some games, you start out not as good as some other people start. But if you keep practicing, you can beat them.
  • It has been found most bosses are people with high social ability's. Extreme intelligence is in no way necessary.
  • There is also something called emotional intelligence is also important. Now a days it's not all about cognitive skills, but also social and emotional skills. It is true though, that having special cognitive abilities is an advantage.

  • These tests are wrong because they think success means how complex your job is or how highly it pays.

Obviously nerdy students will grow to be high-stress job adults who thrive in doing many things at once rather than socialising or having a happy life.

Just because there's a link between being a nerd as a child and growing up to achieve well in nerdy careers does not equal to success.

I know many low-IQ business owners who absolutely love their job and have achieved their version of success and equally know many nerdy adults who do brilliant high paying, well-respected jobs and hate every minute of their 9-5 career.

Do not confuse having what society says is a 'good respectable job' as being the best job for you.

  • @someone234 you are completely right. We have failed to define what success really is. Success is subjective. Everyone has their own definition of success. For example someone may think that success is having a high paying job that allows you to buy nice things and provide for your family, while someone else might think that it's having a job that makes you happy and having the basic necessities and commodities.

@MajoMILSdlGMGV I find it hilarious that they say Lady Gaga is a child genius. She is many things but high IQ isn't one of them. Creative arts are actually dominated by people of low, not even medium, IQ and their creativity stems from the fact that they reason less before coming up with something. In other words, high IQ people actually cannot be as creative as lower IQ people because they overthink any storyline or script they make to the point of insanity whereby they can't efficiently produce/direct anything.

Sia has a beautiful voice and is dominating the Pop industry at the moment but does that means she's high IQ? I really doubt it, she's brilliant at being creative but rationality isn't her forte.
  • @someone234 I'm not sure if IQ is related to artistic or creative abilities, but it would be an interesting topic to look into.

@MajoMILSdlGMGV I genuinely think it is. It is actually the other way around in my opinion (most think the lower IQ drives the creativity).

The causation of higher IQ is the brain's inability to be very creative so these people end up only able to fill their brains with analytical 'take in' type thoughts.

People who are more capable of 'put out there' type thoughts that come from within tend to have less room in their brain for taking in new information of being analytical.

Most children are pretty unintelligent compared to most adults regardless of their DNA's suggested IQ purely due to how much more creativity they have than adults. Adults tend to lose their 'inner world' as it's either bullied out of them or reduced for other reasons.

I am no exception to this rule. I have grown to be a much smarter person because of how much less creative I became.
  • @someone234 I'm not saying you are wrong, because I don't have enough information or evidence to say so. But I don't think you are completely right either. The thing is, I consider myself a creative person, but within my creativity there is intelligence or at least some kind of knowledge. Something that happens to me often is that while reading, whether it is about biology, politics, anthropology, etc. an image pops into my head. The information I read stimulates my creativity which in turn leads me to paint or draw. I'm not Genius intelligent, but I am also not of low intelligence.
  • @MajoMILSdlGMGV What you paint or draw is based on what you intake, that is not creativity.

Creativity is making a new creature or new drawing based on a new thing formed in the head.
  • @someone234 hmm, interesting and true.
