In my opinion Islam is not a religion of war and terror.... if you think so you can join this debate.

Historically, Islam appeared as an ideology aimed to unite the lands conquered by warlord named Mohammad in order to bring stability to them. Mohammad learned from Alexander's failure, who quickly conquered an enormous amount of land, but failed to address the problem of unity, leading to his empire rapidly collapsing upon his death - and decided that a single ideology, named religion, promoting unity under a single moral code and restrictive legal system. Islam turned out to be a convenient tool in uniting nations and armies, and was subsequently regularly used with this purpose in mind.

However, as in case of every other religion, over the centuries different interpretations of Islam started appearing. Some of them were even more violent and controlling than the original Mohammad's idea - others, however, were peaceful, promoting love and compassion. While generally the same holy book (Quran) is used as a guidance, various sentences of Quran have different interpretations, some literal, and others more philosophical and even imaginative.

So, is Islam a religion of war and terror? Yes and no. It really depends on the religious school following Islam, on the individual following Islam, on the devotion of the follower to Islam and so on.
