Judge blocks Trump administration from banning Syrian family

According to the Syrian man’s lawsuit, he fled his country to avoid near-certain death at the hands of two military factions, one a Sunni-aligned group fighting against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime and another group fighting in support of Assad. The pro-Assad forces thought he was sympathetic to the other side and the anti-Assad army targeted him because he was a Sunni and traveled to pro-Assad areas to manage his family’s business.

Both sides tortured him and threatened to kill him, the lawsuit said. The pro-Assad forces also threatened to rape his wife. He came to the US in 2014 and was granted asylum last year. He then began filing petitions seeking asylum for his wife and daughter.

  • Given the level of physical danger it would be inhumane not to let them in.  Our country was founded on these principles. Thst is a good example highlighting issues with this latest ban, and I am glad that the judge saw it that way.
    WhyTrump - a good question
  • It's a bit early to make such a determination.  We won't know if it's a good decision for at least 40-50 years, until the daughter is passed the age that she might commit terror-related acts.
  • @CYDdharta , unfortunately we don't have a time machine and cannot wait for 40 years to make such decisions. We need to make decisions on current facts.  The facts are that these people are in danger, they are being tortured and the article mentions threats of his wife being raped.  It will be inhumane to turn them down under these circumstances.
If we are saying that US will turn away from our founding principles for supporting refugees in need, then we need to think about the generation of immigrant descendants who are the USA now.
    WhyTrump - a good question
  • @WhyTrump , i agree with @CYDdharta . I also believe that we need to respect the ban and cannot dismiss the need for appropriate vetting.  If we start taking individual exceptions to every sob story then we will quickly have the door wide open and will let high risk terrorists in.  Undoubtedly, the way te story is told in this article is very emotional.  But that is their job to weite emotional stories, and we need to ensure that nothing is hidden. Like was full due diligence done that there are no terrorist connection for wife while she was there? I am not making a judgement, but we need to respect the process.
  • No, let him move some where else.
  • @islander507Thanx Islander, I was going to make the same point.
  • Vetting has to be put in place immediately with no exceptions.
