Yes, that Is the description for them and it's not really considered to be discrimination.

It's the most straightforward way to address them. The only controversy is in the connotation; the word "alien" is sometimes seen as a negative label - alien as in unfamiliar, disturbing, etc. However, it simply means someone coming from a foreign nation, especially non-naturalized citizens. I don't think this takes away from the humanity of those immigrants, it's just what they are. They also came here illegally so it's not wrong to label them as illegal.

To be fair, some people DO use the word "alien" with a negative connotation, which I disagree with. But ultimately it's just semantics.

According to official definitions it is. 

(3)  The term “alien” means any person not a citizen or national of the United States.

It is completely fair and is a formal definition. What's not fair, is the fact that they come here illegally and become a burden to our taxpayers.

That said, there is somewhat of a potential negative connotation, but I don't think most people think of it that way.

Yes, aliens are a name for immigrants due to them being from a different country.
