they have a lot of influence in the Mexican government which is why this has gone on for so long. Imo it's not about lack of resources to stop them, but rather lack of will for a variety of reasons. I'm not sure what the % is of how much of their production of drugs gets send to the U.S. in which case it's not really Mexico's problem because all that money flows back into Mexico. If billions are flowing back into Mexico what real incentive would there be for them to stop it? Sure a few locals get killed etc, but that seems to be a cost that doesn't out weigh the benefit of all that money.
