I think it should be a federal holiday

I do not think federal holidays should exist in the first place. When we hand our money over to the government to finance its services, we pay for the hard work of the public employees - public employees getting paid for hanging out with their friends on a federal holiday is a poor realization of our investment.

Aside from this consideration, I do not see why the election day should be a federal holiday. Perhaps the public workers should be given a couple of hours off to be able to cast a vote on the election day, but the voting process taking a few minutes hardly is an excuse to skip on 8 hours of work.

Everyone should have the day off. It will increase voter turnout. Many democratic nations do it. Election day should be the biggest celebration in our country, every election we hold is evidence of democracy being alive and well, without that ongoing voting what would this society be?
