My first choice, though, is a Social Democrat who can bring back some balance between the haves and the have-nots. Capitalism is important but what happens if the capitalists have all the money, have invested heavily in AI, need few workers, and their customers have no way to earn money to buy?? "Sum'pin's gotta give"!
A big conservative argument against socialism is, first, that it is related to communism. Communism is a political ideology, socialism is an economic entity that CAN be related to whatever other system we wish to blend it with. We need to BLEND democracy, capitalism, socialism … and whatever else we can find to make a "more perfect economic system" to go with a "more perfect union". NOTHING like what we are headed for now! We HAD a good system, we need to get back to it (when America WAS great), and improve on IT for WE, the PEOPLE, not THEY, THEE people.

What if we just became a monarchy instead? That way we don’t have to vote on everything.

The institute of presidency is a direct heritage of our former monarchic structure of the government. In monarchy, one person essentially controls everything, and even in a constitutional monarchy the king/queen/emperor/empress still holds an overwhelming amount of power. In a parliamentary republic, one person cannot do much, and even the prime minister is directly constrained in their actions by the interests of the parliament as a whole. Presidential republic is that weird transitory state which has the aspects of both the monarchy and the parliamentary republic, and struggles to find its own identity.
I do not think it proper for one person to have a lot of power over a population of over 300 million people, consisting of 50 allegedly independent states and multiple special territories. Parliamentary republics work well in the vast majority of the modern Western democracies, and I can only think of two developed democracies in which the president holds a lot of power: the US and France. And the population of France is roughly 20% of that of the US.
